CC World Cup 2019 news: In a bid to show good luck and give him the blessings, his school in New Delhi is up with a unique gesture towards Indian skipper Virat Kohli.
Virat Kohli is presently in England in the midst of India’s campaign at the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019 where the skipper will look to become the third captain after Kapil Dev (1983) and Mahendra Singh Dhoni (2011) to lift the elusive trophy for the nation. And in a bid to show good luck and give him the blessings, his school in New Delhi is up with a unique gesture.
Host broadcasters on Friday tweeted that soil from Vishal Bharti Public School in Uttam Nagar is being sent to London. “The soil from @imVkohli’s school, where he learned to play cricket, is going to London to bless him (sic.),” Star Sports tweeted.
Kohli had started his schooling at Vishal Bharti before shifting to Saviour Convent when he was in the ninth grade. It was during his days at Vishal Bharti that he had joined the West Delhi Cricket Academy. From a mere student at the cricket academy to winning the U-19 World Cup and now guiding the senior national team at the showpiece event, Kohli has indeed come a long way.
India began their ICC World Cup 2019 campaign against South Africa on June 5 in Southampton where the Men in Blue managed a comfortable six-wicket win. Jasprit Bumrah opening-spell burst and Yuzvendra Chahal’s middle-order riot took care of the Proteas batting lineup as they were folded for 227 for nine. In reply, Rohit Sharma played an unnatural, yet well-composed knock en route to his unbeaten 122 to guide India to the target of 228. Kohli had scored 18 runs in the match before a stunning one-handed catch from Quinton de Kock ended his innings.
India will play their next match against defending champions Australia on Sunday. Australia had recently scripted a historic 3-2 series win on Indian soil back in April. Overall, they lead 8-3 in head-to-head ties in World Cup matches.
