Congress leader Kamal Nath on Monday denied speculations of him contesting the election for the post of Congress President. “I have no interest in the Congress President post, I have come to Delhi for Navratri,” said Nath after his meeting with party chief Sonia Gandhi. The last date of filing nominations for the election is September 30.
“I have no interest in (Congress) President post, only here for Navratri wishes,” Kamal Nath said while speaking to reporters before meeting the party chief.
The Congress high command had earlier asked the veteran politician to immediately come to Delhi and help the party defuse the political crisis in Rajasthan.
Earlier on Monday, Congress leaders Ajay Maken and Mallikaarjun Kharge, observers of the political crisis in Rajasthan met Sonia Gandhi, who asked them to give a written report on the situation.
“I have briefed Congress President… she has sought a detailed report which I will send to her..,” Maken told media persons after the meeting.
As Congress tries to end the political crisis in Rajasthan by finding a successor to Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot who is likely to fight the party’s presidential polls, the status quo will be maintained till the process is over for filing nominations.
