The Bharatiya Janata Party slammed the human rights lobby’s “secular silence” after the incident of human sacrifice in Kerala came to light, leading to the arrest of three people involved in the sacrifice.
“The main accused is a member of the ruling party, and one of the three is an Islamist. What would the lobby’s reaction have been if there had been a BJP-connected person?” BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla said.
According to BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla, the main accused is a member of the ruling party, and one of the three is an Islamist. “What would the lobby’s reaction have been if there had been some BJP-linked person?” Poonawalla asked.
“Unfortunately, the Kerala government does very little to protect women, and such incidents frequently occur due to the unchecked power of the ruling dispensation’s goons in Kerala. What is even more surprising and shocking is the secular silence of the local and eloquent lobby on issues of women’s safety and human rights in general. They have gone completely silent today, perhaps because they are afraid of losing votes, or because the state in which this has occurred is not politically convenient for them to express their opinions on,” according to Poonawalla.
Two women were killed and buried with their bodies cut after a couple was enticed by an advertisement promising wealth through certain rituals. Human sacrifice was part of the rituals, as directed by Shafi.
Bhagaval Singh and his wife Laila performed one sacrifice in which Laila chopped off the head of a woman who came to their house for work. The second sacrifice was made after the couple complained to Shafi about their lack of fortune. Both of the women who were sacrificed were lottery ticket sellers.
According to police, the murders occurred on June 6 and September 26.
Union minister V Muraleedharan slammed the state police’s “delayed response” on Tuesday, claiming that a CPIM member was involved in the incident.
“Slow response from the Kerala Police indicates that women are not protected in Kerala. Is the @pinarayivijayan Govt deliberately delaying it due to the involvement of a @CPIMKerala member? It’s disgusting that @CMOKerala remains silent while two women are brutally murdered,” the minister wrote.
