In a cold-blooded crime, a Delhi man murdered his girlfriend after an argument over his impending marriage to another woman, stuffed her body in a refrigerator at his dhaba, and went on with his wedding the same day, police said on Tuesday.
According to the preliminary investigation, the 24-year-old accused told Delhi Police that in 2018, he met the victim, Nikki Yadav, at a coaching centre in Uttam Nagar area. Some time later, they entered a relationship and started living together.
Nikki Yadav was living in a live-in relationship. But her lover wanted to marry another woman. There used to be frequent disputes between the two over this. There was an argument between the two several times.
Sahil Gahlot said that his family was putting pressure on him to get married with some other woman and finally in December 2022, the engagement and marriage of the accused were fixed for February 9 and 10, respectively.
As per sources, the murder was committed near the Kashmiri Gate area and Gehlot then drove with the dead body all the way to his dhaba – a distance of around 36 km.
Police, however, said that the matter is under investigation and everything will be cleared once the probe is over.
The accused did not inform Nikki about his engagement or marriage plans. Somehow, she came to know about this and confronted the accused and arguments started between the two. Later on, Sahil stangulated Nikki with a data cable kept in his car. After dumping the victim’s body, Sahil went back to his home and solemnised his marriage with another woman.
Sahil disclosed to the police that he had killed his girlfriend in the intervening night of February 9 and 10 Feb and married another woman hours later.
Gehlot did not inform Nikki about his engagement or marriage plans. “Somehow she came to know about this and confronted the accused and arguments started between the two. The accused strangulated the deceased with the help of a data cable of his mobile phone kept in his car. Thereafter, he went to the dhaba owned by him and put her dead body in a refrigerator,” he said, adding that Gehlot then went back to his home and solemnised his marriage with another woman.
“The dead body of Nikki was recovered from the fridge at the instance of the accused. A case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code has been registered and the version disclosed by the accused is being verified during investigation,” said the official
