The letter, purportedly written in Malayalam by a person in Kochi, was received at the office of Kerala BJP chief K Surendran, who in turn, handed it over to the police.
Following a threat letter received by the state office of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), warning of a suicide attack during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Kochi on April 24, Kerala has been placed on high alert. The letter included the sender’s name and other personal details.
Although the man mentioned in the letter has been identified by the police, he has denied any involvement, alleging that his opponents used his name to implicate him. Despite his denial, security measures have been increased, and central investigation agencies have requested further information.
Meanwhile, a letter that detailed security protocols from the Additional Director General of Police has been leaked to the media. The ADGP’s correspondence also drew attention to various other critical threat alerts, including one from the banned Popular Front of India (PFI). M Muraleedharan, Minister of State for External Affairs from Kerala, expressed apprehension about the breach, citing it as a severe lapse on the part of the state police.
K. Surendran, the BJP state chief, has asserted that all planned events will proceed as scheduled. On April 24, PM Modi is anticipated to arrive in Kochi, followed by a visit to Thiruvananthapuram the next day to inaugurate Kerala’s inaugural Vande Bharat Express.
Earlier, Surendran had provided specifics about the Prime Minister’s itinerary during his visit, stating that the senior BJP leader would lead a roadshow and deliver a public speech.
“Prime Minister’s visit to Kerala will give impetus to the state’s development. There is a great expectation among the people of Kerala for this visit. PM Modi will hold a road show. People will come voluntarily to receive him. ‘Yuvam’ will be the conference that would mark the beginning of Kerala’s political change. The youth who want the development of Kerala beyond party politics will participate in this,” he said at a press conference.
Meanwhile, BJP state president K Surendran has slammed the state police “for leaking the VVIP security plan pertaining to the visit” of the Prime Minister. “Religious extremist outfits are very strong and active in Kerala. The report of the state intelligence chief has been leaked out to the media. It has reference to several organisations including the banned Popular Front of India (PFI), People’s Democratic Party (PDP), SDPI and Maoists. But the state government is protecting these outfits,” he alleged.
