“This morning, the alert BSF Jammu troops gave a befitting reply to the unprovoked firing by Pakistan Rangers on a BSF patrolling party,” BSF Deputy Inspector General SPS Sandhu said separately.
It may be recalled that a very few incidents of ceasefire violations by Pakistan have been reported since February 2021 when the two neighbours reaffirmed strict observance of all “agreements, understandings and cease firing along the Line of Control and all other sectors”. That reaffirmation was the first time since the ceasefire agreement of 2003 that both countries decided to adhere to the ceasefire.
The Indian Army had said in February earlier this year that the ceasefire had been holding since February 25, 2021 and not a single exchange of fire took place between the two armies over the period of last one year.
The ceasefire reaffirmation brought relief to border residents and farmers who resumed farming activities along the Line of Control and the International Border.
