“I respect historians and artists and for those artists, Uttar Pradesh is providing a platform in the form of Film City,” said UP CM Yogi Adityanath.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has now opened up on the Boycott Bollywood trend as well as the Besharam Rang controversy. In an interview, he said that filmmakers should be careful with what they depict on screen.
Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone’s Pathaan song Besharam Rang had earlier run into a controversy after some politicians and right-wing outfits claimed the song insulted the saffron colour. Soon after, there were calls for boycott made for the film.
He further added, “Any artist, litterateur or anyone with accomplishments should be respected. Uttar Pradesh has also made a policy for films and many films are being made in the state.”
The Boycott trend started again ahead of Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone’s Pathaan release on January 25. Ever since the film’s track Besharam Rang was released, it created noise. While many love the peppy song, others were boycotting the film. Madhya Pradesh minister Dr Narottam Mishra fumed over the use of saffron costumes in the song. He also said Pathaan contains some objectionable scenes, and threatened to ban it in Madhya Pradesh if those shots are not replaced. He was also not happy with the song’s name. Several politicians spoke up on the same lines after this.
