The friendship between Russia and China has reached a peak amid the Ukraine war. Chinese President Xi Jinping recently visited Russia and attacked Western countries. Russia is also seeing a big danger in this friendship with China and is seeking India’s help to deal with it. In fact, China is eyeing Vladivostok, a strategically very important remote area of Russia which is full of natural resources. Many people of China also call it their part. In the midst of this threat from China, the Modi government of India has also expressed its intention to help Russia. India has said that it wants to set up a satellite city in Vladivostok.
India wants to develop port, road and energy infrastructure in Vladivostok as part of the Act for East policy of the Modi government. According to the report of our associate newspaper Economic Times, China is strengthening its hold in this area. This is the reason why Russia wants India to increase its presence in this region. Many nationalists of China claim this area of Russia as their own. Both Russia and India are discussing the possibility of starting a trans-Arctic container shipping line that will pass through the Northern Sea Route.
Russia’s Far East and Arctic Affairs Minister Alexey Chekunkov has given this information. Alexi was on a visit to India and met with Sarbananda Sonowal, Minister of Ports and Shipping. Russia plans to move goods to Europe through the Northern Sea Route and the Eastern Route, which run between ports in both countries, instead of the southern or western routes. With this, the cost of a container coming from Moscow to India will be reduced by 30 percent if it is sourced from Vladivostok.
Earlier, PM Modi had announced that India wanted to help Russia in developing the Northern Sea Route and turning it into a global trade route. The Northern Sea Route or the Northern Sea Route covers the entire Arctic region and the Far Eastern region of Russia. Putin wants this road to be developed so that this deserted area of his/her will benefit. This area became the hub of global transport. With the construction of this route, both the cost and time of going to Europe will be saved. Till now ships make this journey through Suez or Panama Canal.
